Good Afternoon MPJFL Community,

Due to the latest lockdown extension and the effect this will have on our season, as well as the uncertainty moving past that point, we have made the decision to bring the 2021 MPJFL season to a conclusion. While this decision was extremely hard to make, it has become clear that the season no longer remains viable. The government has failed to give a clear roadmap out of this lockdown, and the variables surrounding this are out of our control. The MPJFL executive voted on this matter last night, recording an overwhelming majority in favour of the cancellation. We understand there will be disappointed players, parents, volunteers and club members, however we have reached a point in this scenario where we must prioritize the health and safety of our members and wider Mornington Peninsula community. I think we can find some solace in our continued efforts to finalise the season, and that our priority always remained what is best for the participants.

Firstly, I would like to thank all club committee members and volunteers. This experience has been difficult on us all and your efforts throughout the consistent lockdowns to keep your clubs engaged and informed have been second to none. Also, your support and understanding of the league during this time has been greatly appreciated, and provides a true reflection of the community organisation that we are. To the players and team staff, we understand this is difficult and the season has been frustrating, but your determination and optimism to continue the season this year despite the challenges faced, has been a pleasure to watch. Hopefully you can bring this passion and enthusiasm into 2022 and make it a year bigger and better than ever.

To our Under 17 Boys, and Under 18 Girls who are ageing out of the MPJFL, we thank you for your time in our league and wish you all the best moving into the next chapter of your sporting life, as well as any future endeavors. It has been a privilege to watch this age group grow and while it is disappointing we could not reach a definitive conclusion we hope that you have enjoyed your time within the MPJFL.

To our umpires, we thank you for what has been another great year. The MPJFL Umpire Academy is growing each year and Is an exciting prospect moving forward. A huge thankyou to our Umpire Co-ordinator Cooper Marriott and our Umpire Administrator Stephanie Firth for their hard work this season.

I would also like to thank our valued partners that have contributed greatly to our league this season and have worked with us collaboratively to help create opportunities for our participants within the MPJFL. We hope to continue these partnerships into the future and grow together.

Finally to the executive committee, thank you for another season. While the year has been challenging you have all remained committed and determined to making the MPJFL the best it can be.

As per the MPJFL Covid Framework distributed to clubs, the team who has finished in first position of the ladder will be awarded the 2021 Premiership. We are currently exploring a virtual presentation night, so please stay tuned for this information, as we remain determined to reward the players for their efforts despite the shortened season.

Please stay safe and we will see you again as the preparations for 2022 begin.
